The Practical Science Programme:
Once a month, P7 pupils visit the Academy to experience science in a laboratory setting. This year, Mrs MacMillan will deliver this science experience. Feedback from pupils over the last 2 years, tells us they value the opportunity to experience the working environment of secondary school at first hand, particularly in science activities that emphasise the scientific method and practical elements.
This year, we are again providing a Physical Activity and Sport period, which is on the same days as the Practical Science activity.
This year, we are also looking to further broader the curricular experience of P7 pupils in the Technological Studies curricular area. We hope to offer this after the Easter Holidays 2012, but dates are not yet known.

The Prospectus is delivered to Primary 7 pupils by S6 pupils. This is also a chance for primary pupils to ask questions about life in the Academy. |
P7 pupils spend a morning in Kirkcudbright Academy. They have the opportunity to meet pupils from other Primaries before being given a guided tour around the school by Academy pupils. Once again, pupils can ask questions about any issues concerning them. For the current session this visit will take place on either Tuesday 17 January or Wednesday 18 January 2012. |
An information evening for P7 parents is held. This session the date for this evening is Wednesday 18 January 2012, here in Kirkcudbright Academy.

Staff from the Pupil Support Department visit primaries to discuss certain pupils' learning needs or any other issues, and to give pupils further information about the Academy. Again, this helps to smooth the transition to secondary. |
In mid May, there is an Open Evening where parents and pupils are invited to visit the school. After a brief address by senior members of staff, parents and pupils are able to tour the school, where they will find a range of activities taking place in the various departments. Parents will have an opportunity to see the school in action and talk to staff. In the current session, the Open Evening will be held on Thursday 17 May 2012. |
P7 pupils visit Kirkcudbright Academy for a sports and physical activity. The date of this has not been finalised. |
| June 2012 |
P7 pupils spend 2 days in secondary school, in their S1 class, attending a lesson in most of the subjects that they will study in S1. For the current session the dates are Thursday 28 June and Friday 29 June. |
| At this stage, based on our experience of previous years, we know that opportunities for other P7 activities can arise and where appropriate, we try to accommodate these.
