School Uniform

After consultation with Parent Council, parents and School Council, the following uniform code has been agreed. When in school or representing the school at activities and events, all pupils will wear:

  • School tie – worn at the neck
  • White shirt – long or short-sleeved, buttoned to the neck or top button
  • Black or dark grey skirt or trousers – not studded, zipped jeans or cargo pants and, excepting PE, not sports gear which is highly flammable
  • Black shoes and dark socks.
  • Pullover/sweatshirt/cardigan in black only and without hood or logo.
School Blazer/Jacket

Following representations by the School
Council, pupils now have the choice of
wearing either a traditional blazer or a
relatively inexpensive tailored jacket – both
available from the School Office.

Other requirements

  • While we would prefer that pupils
delay body piercings until they leave,
safety demands that they should not
wear hoops or rings in piercings
  • Pupils should ensure that clothing is
    appropriate – naked midriffs and
    unbuttoned shirts are inappropriate
for our school and the Scottish climate!

Teams and Competitors

When pupils are representing the school in team or individual sports, in drama or debating competitions or in any other activity where the school is a participant, they will be provided with a school blazer or jacket if they do not already have one.

Sportswear

Indoor Outdoor
Indoor – Red, black or white T shirt, shorts or tracksuit trousers. No football shirts or scarves to be worn in the PE department. Gym/training shoes with non-marking soles must be worn in the gym and games hall.

Outdoor – As indoor, plus jumper or cagoule, change of socks, suitable boots according to activity.

Equipment required by Pupils

Normally, books, jotters, notebooks etc will be provided. Pupils are expected to have their own pen, pencils, rubber, ruler, mathematical instruments etc.

Charges are made for the following:

  • Technical, Home Economics and photographic materials
  • hire of musical instruments
  • certain clubs and societies which make a small nominal charge
  • games and organised outings.

The School Fund generally subsidises organised outings and sports events to keep transport costs to a reasonable level for pupils.

Pupils are urged to name all personal property and to bring to school only what is necessary, particularly with regard to money. Pupils must ensure that money is handed to PE staff before a PE lesson to avoid money being left in the changing rooms. While every effort will be made to investigate losses, money is rarely identifiable and is recoverable only when the finder is honest.

If pupils bring mobile phones into school, they must be switched off. If pupils use a mobile phone in school it will be confiscated and put into the School Office. Parents will be contacted and asked to pick up the phone or authorise their son/daughter to collect the phone after school. If a phone goes off during an internal or SQA exam, the pupil will forfeit his/her award in the exam.

Lockers

Lockers have been installed in the cloakroom areas of the school. These are available for the storage of books and equipment at a cost of £5 per session.
